Laura Is… More Than One Thing

Welcome to Lauraism. I wanted a little corner of the internet where I could share more than one piece of who I am.

I love researching, creating, asking questions, and spending time with my family. I also have opinions—and I’m interested in explaining the experiences and thinking behind them.

This blog gives all of that a home.

A place for all the different pieces

You’ll find genealogy and family history, digital design and crafting, parenting and family life, and the everyday moments that matter to me.

I’ll also write about living with medical challenges, something that has been part of my life for more than half of it. Those posts will be about my experiences and what life looks like from my side of them.

And yes, there will be politics and religion—or a lack of religion. I’ll share my personal views and explain how I arrived at them. Sometimes understanding someone’s reasons tells you more than knowing where they stand.

The stories behind the opinions

There are personal experiences that have shaped who I am, and I’ll share those stories gradually. Some may be funny. Some may be difficult to write. Others may simply be something I wish someone had talked about when I needed to hear it.

My hope is that someone who has dealt with a similar situation—or is going through it now—might find something helpful here, or feel a little less alone.

Room to be curious

I don’t expect everyone to agree with me. Different perspectives are welcome, and kindness and respect matter.

Having an opinion doesn’t mean I’ve stopped asking questions. Learning is part of the point, whether I’m following a clue in a family tree, trying something new with a design, or thinking through a big question.

Where we go from here

I’ll start by sharing more about my genealogy journey: how searching for family became a love of research that has lasted more than thirty years.

After that? A little of everything. That feels like the right way to introduce a blog about someone who is more than one thing.

Thanks for being here.
