As a child, I never thought of myself as artistic. I didn’t even enjoy coloring or drawing. If you’d told me back then that I would one day love designing and creating things, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.
My first taste of creativity came through web design, back when tools like Microsoft FrontPage were part of the process. I taught myself HTML and started building webpages. When I owned my own businesses, I built their websites, too.
From there, I taught myself how to use Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher to create logos and professional stationery. I might not have enjoyed drawing on paper, but I was discovering that I liked creating on a screen.
As the years went by and the tools improved, my web design skills grew. WordPress certainly helped make things easier!
In 2018, I decided to try my hand at digital design. Tools like Canva opened up possibilities I wouldn’t otherwise have known how to bring to life.
What began with building websites and designing things for my businesses grew into an interest of its own. I had found a kind of creativity that suited me.
I’m huge on memories. There are many reasons I cherish the memories I’ve made throughout my life, and I want to give others a way to hold on to theirs, too.
That’s what changed my direction. My passion became less about simply being an entrepreneur and more about making things that help people savor their cherished memories.
In 2018, I started NanaGrams Designs. In 2023, I renamed it NanaGrams Deals. At the heart of it is my love of creating something personal—something that means more because of the memory it represents.
Looking back, it’s funny to think that the child who couldn’t stand coloring or drawing would grow up to enjoy digital design and crafting so much.
I found my creative side through teaching myself, trying new tools, and following the things that interested me.
Now, if I could just figure out internet marketing, I’d be golden. 🙂
